History
of purin
The pocket monster (pokémon) craze is not like it used to be in America. Kids once went crazy for the shit, and now, not too many people give a fuck about it anymore. Which makes
liking it more pleasurable for me, seeing as prices on the little pocket monster treasures have dropped considerably and I don't have to step on little kids to buy my purin merchandise.
The whole purin and pocket monster thing goes way back, to the mid 90's. A new Nintendo game for Nintendo's game boy sweeps the island of Japan by storm. It's called
"Pocket Monsters" or "Pokémon" and is part of the "monster" genre, something that's known over there, but not here. And basically anything in the monster genre is a
game/animé/manga(Japanese comic book) that deals with people (usually kids or preteens) that have to capture monsters for some sort of reason. Pokémon was the one that made it
big all around the world with its appeal to both girls and boys; it's originality, all them cute monsters, and a hellaz lot of mind control.
Come on, you guys have GOT to know what I'm talking about! Pokémon swept America back in 1998(went big until early 2001, I'd say) in such a way that it's embedded in our minds
forever. You have to remember all those brainless kids bouncing around demanding pokémon toys and propaganda like crazy. And I know you all remember that stupid over-rated
yellow rabbit-looking thing we all like to call "pikachu". Whatever the case, pokémon is something that was huge once, still is huge in some places, and is something we've all been in
contact with one way or another.
Purin is one of the monsters a trainer is expected to capture on their pokémon journeys in the game, and cute pink thing that follows Satoshi(Ash) and the gang around and appears in
every few episodes or so in the animé. Introducing * drum roll * PURIN! Most people know what Purin/Jigglypuff is. Teenagers at my school still remember the "jigglypuff" song from
the pocket monster American dub. (Hell, some still sing it) and Purin has lots of merchandise modeled after it (seeing as it's round shape is easy to replicate into plushies, models, key
chains, purses, pouches, candy dispensers, and even tape dispensers -uhm…all of which, I own ^^;) Purin is among the most popular because it's the only pocket monster in the animé
that sings, and that one episode that Purin/Jiggly Puff premiers in was played an awful lot on kidsWB.
In the Pocket Monster/Pokémon game, Purin is a "normal" type run-of-the-mill monster. It's attacks are pretty weak unless you train it well. Most people don't rely on it too much, and
just add it to the collection with the others.
Purin makes her first appearance in the first season of the pocket monster/pokémon animé. Satoshi(Ash) and his friends Kasumi(Misty) and Takeshi(Brock) all do their parts to cure
Purin's problem in the first episode. They heal her. And regret it later. In later episodes her appearances are not welcomed. Seeing as her lullaby makes everyone fall asleep. And Purin
has can tent to have bad timing (sometimes). Purin is constantly following Satoshi(Ash) and his gang around, she makes herself apparent every few episodes or so. While people
continue to watch the series and progress into the new seasons, you either learn to love purin and her many appearances more, and really despise her and get tired of her. But pikachu
is much worse :P Annoying little yellow rat…
Purin is also in Toshihiro Ono's Pocket Monster/Pokémon manga adventures. She stars in the "Clefairy from space" story, and is the pet of a sweet and adorable little girl named Mimi
that wants to see her dead mother again.
