An opera singer on the rise. Her long awaited wish to play the leading role comes true in an opera to be held on Christmas Eve. Although she is an introvert and was constantly sick as a child, she began to aspire to become an actress after learning about the opera. She occasionally commutes to the hospital even now and is always carrying some sort of medication. Daniel would later uncover this information about her:
Daniel:...She's got no relatives. No close friends. She was sick often-always on some kind of medication. The people at the opera said they were amazed she could even stand on stage. Her apartment burned down right after the incident so we have no info on her medication.
We learn that Melissa had received kidney transplant surgery when she was young. She often fell ill and was advised to take immunosuppressant drugs to prevent her internal systems from rejecting the new organ. Melissa didn't know that it was her Mitochondria that was making her feel ill. She took more and more immunosuppressant drugs to try to feel better, and it greatly weakens her immune system. This is what allowed the Mitochondria to gradually gain greater control over her body and consciousness. We learn later in the game that Melissa was spotted sneaking into the Museum at night to meet with Hans Klamp, revealing that there were lapses in time before the night of the opera when Eve had complete control over Melissa’s body. Aya witnesses Melissa's final moments early in the game. Melissa is trying to keep Eve from taking over her consciousness, but she loses the battle.
Melissa: I'm...Melissa...I'm...NO...!
Eve: Nucleic domination has finally come to an end once and for all!
And she transforms into Mitochondria Eve, all traces of Melissa’s humanity vanish for the remainder of the game.
From what information we are given about Melissa, we know that she is a girl who was single-mindedly trying to achieve her goal of being the lead in an opera and moving forward in her performing career. She was extremely passionate about it, even writing in her journal that she’d sell her soul to the devil for success if she had to.
These are the entries from Melissa’s diary that Aya finds very early in the game.
